War V

The war of the valentine.

I have had the one valentine, the one I am married to. Pretty awesome really.
I view the day as a marvellous excuse to go on dates and leave the children with someone else, but apart from that, I will be right there with any other cynic pointing at all the insincere valentines marketing and commercial shenanigans.

I still made these though, because the alternatives were bitter quotes from my stressball mind or swear words...  painting swear words would have offended some people and also seemed very hypocritical seeing as I'm always telling the man off for watching sweary things. (the Angel repeats everything. He's a talented little parrot) Also love is pretty awesome, and while I dislike the commercialism of valentines day, I do love love and enjoy being in it.

Happy super early valentines day. May your day, like every day, be awesome. (So basically, have a good day hahaha)

Ride Sally, Ride.

As a foreword to the quote below I would just like to say that I think it is lazy to quote people about whom you know nothing. Google it people. Really, it isn't that difficult.
Sally Ride is someone I knew of without Google's help. She's awesome and so I have no qualms about quoting her... she's also right. Adventures are scary.

Ky got into film school.

I'm excited for him, and terrified at the same time because I will be stepping up to work from home, while looking after the Angel (hah!) and the Samurai. In less than two weeks he will be a full time student and I will be a full time artist/mum/businesswoman... so I am really pushing myself to get my head out of the safe 'dabbling with etsy' mentality and into the actual 'real life' of building a brand, making money and you know... being successful.

I really appreciate all the support that I have gotten from friends and family to build my confidence as an artist and designer and while there are only a couple of people who follow this blog (sup Jess and Tara!) I still have confidence that I can make a go of it and live the dream of doing something that I love to support my family.

So while I am still studying to be a medical transcriptionist, I do not love it, and I will be happy to cast the keyboard aside in favour of paintbrushes and pens or even my tablet and stylus (despite how noobish I feel when using it)

So. 2013... come at me bro.

Handwriting

I have always had a love hate relationship with my handwriting. It has always seemed inconsistent and its quality appeared to be totally dependent on the kind of pen I was writing with.

When I was a teenager (an increasingly long time ago -.- ) I imagined myself as some kind of writer. Fantasy mostly.
I had a folder full of various kinds of paper that I wrote my stories on, and while they were completely hopeless (I have never had delusions that they were good) I enjoyed writing them, and on a tangential point, I enjoyed seeing pages and pages of handwriting. It was paper fulfilling its purpose.

I love letters, I love journals and scrapbooks... so I figure I should really get over my handwriting.

As an offset to certain fonts, handwriting (and not just handwriting inspired fonts) can look pretty cool. Here is a draft of a menu I made up for my talented television/radio/magazine food reviewer/chef slash lawyer Delaney. As a side note, I love Delaney's handwriting.
